What is community mapping and how does this training support its use?

“Community mapping” refers to the baseline collection, definition and description of information about a community, including its services, suppliers, businesses, organizations, infrastructure, and people. Here “community” is defined in the broadest sense: a city or county, an industry network, or a multi-agency response to a crisis.

Once a community’s strengths, weaknesses and interdependencies are known, they can be adapted to lessen risk and improve recovery before, during, and after a crisis occurs.
